義大利作曲家貝內迪托?馬切洛（Benedetto Marcello）出生於威尼斯貴族家庭，與兄長亞歷山德羅（Alessandro）在音樂藝術上皆成績卓著，為當時在歐洲與韋瓦第齊名的威尼斯傑出作曲家。貝內迪托?馬切洛的作品特色為：嚴謹的對位，富有詩意的旋律線條，高貴優雅而簡明易懂。

馬切洛奏鳴曲集作品編號二，1712年首度在威尼斯印行，因廣受歡迎，同年亦於阿姆斯特丹出版，1730年又在倫敦出版。此曲為作品二的第八首，採用教會奏鳴曲式，由慢–快–慢–快四個樂章組成。現由薩克斯風演奏家李承育改編，維持原本調性，配器則改為高音（或中音）薩克斯風與鋼琴。

Benedetto Marcello (1686–1739). Italian composer. Born in Venice, he was a member of a noble family. Marcello was a younger contemporary of Antonio Vivaldi in Venice. His instrumental music enjoys a Vivaldian flavor. His elder brother Alessandro was also a notable composer. Marcello himself was praised for 'strength and regularity of design' and 'noble simplicity.'

Marcello's Suonate op. 2 was first published in Venice in 1712. The popularity of this collection is proven by the fact that they were published again the same year in Amsterdam. And also published in London in 1730. The sonata op. 2 no. 8 was written in 'sonata da chiesa' form and has four movements: slow - fast - slow - fast. This sonata is now arranged by saxophonist Cheng-yu Lee. He transcribed it still in original key, but for soprano/alto saxophone and piano.
